Welcome to Open Enrollment!

The year has flown by, and it's November already!

Open Enrollment, commonly referred to as OE, is your once-a-year opportunity to make changes or sign up for new benefits. As always, we want you to take time to review, understand and select the right benefits for you and your family. Carefully take the time to review all of your available benefits, including those McClatchy provides at no cost to you, and make the best selections for the year ahead.

What you need to know this year...

Open Enrollment is "passive" this year, meaning most of your 2021 benefits choices will continue into 2022.  However, you must complete Open Enrollment if:

  • You want to continue covering a spouse or domestic partner and/or;
  • You wish to enroll in or continue to contribute to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) in 2022

Even if you're making no changes, still take this opportunity to launch Open Enrollment in Employee Self Service to make sure your contact information and beneficiary data is accurate.

Ready to complete Open Enrollment?

Make sure you're on the company network (VPN) and follow these steps to access OE when launching Employee Self-Service (Main Menu > Self Service > Benefits > Benefits enrollment).

Having network issues? Contact help@mcclatchy.com or call 800-888-3272.

Open Enrollment FAQ

McClatchy continues to optimize our benefit package, expand coverage (such as Gender Affirmation benefits), and pass along savings where possible. Such as for 2022, your dental premiums are decreasing! See below for a breakdown of McClatchy's premium changes by plans:

See the 2022 Cost & Rates page for more details.

McClatchy offers two medical plans, both of which cover the same types of procedures and services; however, they differ in the way the cost of care is structured and in the strategies you can use to control your expenses.

The Savings Advantage plan includes a higher deductible; however, you’ll pay a lower monthly premium (your cost of the medical plan) and McClatchy will contribute to your HSA to jump-start your savings.*

With the Classic Care plan, you'll pay less for services received from an in-network provider but will pay more in monthly premium costs.

See our medical plan side-by-side  and use ALEX for more information.

*Employees are subject to eligibility rules for HSA contributions

You have two dental plans to choose from: Basic or Comprehensive. Both plans provide access to network providers at negotiated discount costs and cover preventive services, such as exams, cleanings and x-rays. However, the Comprehensive plan also includes coverage for basic/major restorative services.

See our dental plan side-by-side for more information.

You have two vision plans to choose from: Basic or Comprehensive. Both plans provide access to network providers at negotiated discount costs, cover preventive services such as exams, and offer discounts on the purchase of prescription glasses and/or contacts. However, the Comprehensive plan also includes an allowance for prescription glasses or contact lenses.

See our vision plan side-by-side for more information.

Fortunately, McClatchy is able and happy to automatically enroll all benefit-eligible employees in the below benefits:

  • Wellness Program- Rewards you while developing sustainable, long-term behavior change through daily engagement tools, social and group activities and personalized micro-learning.
  • Short-term & Long-term Disability Insurance- Protects you and minimizes your financial worries should you become ill or injured and unable to work (may be augmented by state leave and/or McClatchy's Parental Leave)
  • Basic Life & ADPL Insurance- Helps by providing a foundation of financial protection for your family if something happens to you.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)- Provides you and your family with confidential support, resources and referrals for every aspect of your work and personal life.

McClatchy encourages you to really evaluate your current benefits and make informed decisions about the coverage that's right for you and your family.  We understand it can be difficult to make judgement calls. Therefore we've partnered with ALEX, an interactive benefits advisor!  Taking into account your personal health and finances, ALEX can help decide what's right for you. Click here to get started!

Both the Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account options let you take home a larger paycheck by reducing your taxable income. Once you're enrolled you contribute tax-free dollars into an account that can be used on qualified medical, dental and vision or qualified dependent care expenses — also reducing out-of-pocket costs.

Health Savings Account (HSA) - You must be enrolled in the Savings Advantage Plan to be eligible for the HSA program. This plan does not require re-enrollment each year as long as you remain eligible.

Health Care FSA (HCFSA) - The FSA healthcare plan is available to any employee not enrolled in the Savings Advantage Plan. Re-enrollment each year is required to participate.

Dependent Care FSA (DCFSA) - The Dependent Care FSA  is available to all employees with eligible dependents regardless of medical plan enrollment. Both the Healthcare FSA and the Dependent Care FSA plans require re-enrollment each year to participate.

Looking for a side-by-side comparison of all these accounts? Visit our HSA vs FSAs page for more details.

ALEX is also here for you to learn more about saving on taxes!

  • Gather your Social Security Number and Date of Birth for new dependent(s)
  • Decide who your beneficiaries will be - It is helpful, but not required, to have the same information (SSN and DOB) for beneficiaries

Please note: If you wait until the last day for enrollment, you may not be able to access a LiveWell team member or IT live to troubleshoot. Please take time to get your enrollment done as soon as possible to confirm your elections for 2022, and have resources available to assist you.

In most cases, you may only make changes to your benefits during Open Enrollment. However, if you or your family experience a “qualified life event,” you may make changes to certain benefits related to that event, such as a birth or marriage. Take a look at our what to do when page for more details.

Changes you make to your benefits during Open Enrollment will take effect on Jan. 1, 2022.
