Congratulations on what is an an exciting and rewarding time for you! While parenthood poses challenges and questions, being prepared can help ease concerns and allow you to enjoy the precious moments as they occur. This section will guide you through important steps to take after welcoming your newest family addition(s).

Notify your People team

Notify the People team of your new child and provide hospital documentation of the birth or finalized adoption paperwork within 31 days of the event.

Update your benefits

Provide  documentation within 31 days of the birth or adoption in order to change your benefit elections in Employee Self Service.

You will be notified via email of your deadline to enroll. Coverage will be retroactive to your child's birth or adoption date.

Dependent Eligibility Verification Process
If you add a dependent onto a McClatchy health care plan, you will need to submit additional documentation to Budco to verify your dependent’s eligibility for this coverage.

You will receive communications about this if applicable in the mail 2 weeks after enrollment.

Update personal info

Update your personal information in Employee Self Service such as address,  emergency contact, and federal tax withholdings.

Please reach out to the People team if you would like to update your state withholdings.

Update 401(k) beneficiaries

Update your 401(k) beneficiary information online at or by phone at (800)523-1188. (Plan #098630)

McClatchy's health plans include Aetna's Maternity Program designed to help you from the time you start planning a family, through pregnancy and well after your baby is born. The program is staffed by nurses with maternity experience. Once you've enrolled in the program, you get:

  • Educations materials on prenatal care, labor and delivery and newborn care
  • A pregnancy survey to help determine whether a rish for certain complications exisist
  • A preterm labor program to support high-risk women
  • Access to specially training nurse for high-risk mothers-to-be
  • One-on-one counseling to help pregnant women quit smoking and much more!
